Now most of my followers are nail people but I just wanted to put something out there for those non nail people struggling to achieve a great looking mani. So here we go:
1 – Always follow hand washing and using hand sanitisers with an application of lotion. See my recommendation here for a cheap but effective lotion.
2 – Try to apply cuticle oil at least twice a day. For an idea of which oils do which job, have a read of one of my previous posts here.
3 – Cleanse the nail plate before applying base coat to remove any grease that could make application uneven.
4 – Invest in a good basecoat to prevent discolouration of your nails and fill any ridges you may have. A lot of basecoats now have the added benefit of additional nutrients to help nail growth.
5 – Apply polish in thin layers and allow a bit of time to partially dry between layers.
6 – Use a brush and nail polish remover to clean up any spills and smudges on your cuticles. Something like this would be ideal.
7 – Use a fast dry top coat to avoid smudging. I love ‘Seche Vite’.
8 – Go to bed before a special occasion with your hands slathered in intensive moisturiser wrapped in cotton gloves.
Unfortunately I’ve had to cut my natural nails right down so I am concentrating on press on nails for a while. Here is my latest.
Nails Inc ‘Black Taxi’ Coated with one layer of the following: ILNP ‘Homecoming’ ‘Sitting Fireside’ ‘Mon Amore’ ‘Fall Semester’ ‘Purple Plasma’
Today I have on Masura ‘Mint Breeze‘ from The Golden Collection. This Russian polish is a truly magical scattered holographic jelly in a stunning mint green shade. I saw another blogger describe this as having the appearance of powdered precious stones and I couldn’t agree more. It covers in three layers and jelly nature allows the sparkles to shine through each layer, creating maximum ‘in your face’ sparkle!
Introducing Esmaltes da Kelly ‘Medusa’ from the ‘Ultra Holo Collection’. As you know I am sucker for sparkle so when I saw this collection I had to buy more than one! These polishes are actually for stamping but they work just as well as a nail polish and they cover in just one coat (although I have used two here). ‘Medusa’ is a gorgeous violet holo purple and on two of the nails I have used glitter from ‘Born Pretty’ and stamped over the top in the same colour – unfortunately it doesn’t show up well in this photo.
Most of this range are currently sold through Nail-Artisan and can be purchased here.
I recently saw a version of this manicure on Instagram @luciadoesnails, I asked if she would mind if I did something similar and she was happy for me to do so.
I used Kiss Short Oval press on nails with a Base Colour of Essie ‘Ballet Slippers’. I then handpainted the following: Dark Pink – Nails Inc ‘Sloane Street’, Medium Pink – Nails Inc ‘Brompton Place’ & Baby Pink – Nails Inc ‘Totes Pink’ all finished off with my trusty Seche Vite.
Black – Nails Inc ‘Black Taxi’
White – MoYou ‘White Knight’
Golds Glitter – O.P.I ‘All Sparkly and Gold’
Topped with – New Look Pure Colour ‘Sweet Rose’
